Being asked to deliver a wedding toast is an opportunity that not everyone gets to do in their life. And it's not something that everyone is comfortable doing, especially if they don't feel that they have great speaking skills. Procrastination is the First Step to Failure

The bride or groom holds you in high enough esteem to ask you to make a toast, and you need to approach this task with the same amount of seriousness. The last thing you want is to be writing your speech on a cocktail napkin five minutes before you're supposed to speak. Write your toast at least three weeks before the wedding to give yourself time to edit your work, have others give you their suggestions, and most importantly, memorize what you're going to say.

What Not to Say

First things first, what should you avoid saying in your toast?  Growing up, my mother always told me, "It's not what you say, it's how you say it". That advice is certainly true when it comes wedding invitations.

Whether the actual ceremony is a black-tie event or sandals on the beach, the wording used in the wedding invitations should follow certain formalities. By following the rules of this etiquette, you will be able to save yourself from feelings being hurt or misunderstandings. - In addressing envelopes, write out all names.

- Include reply cards with self stamped and preaddressed envelopes so that you can be certain to plan for the proper number of guests

- If it is an adults only event, only address to the adults of the household. It is improper to say "no children" or "adults only" in invitation wording

- One invitation per household unless adult children over 18 also reside at the same address.

- Do not use abbreviations. Spell out words such as road, street, and avenue.

- For weddings that are more informal or not in a religious setting, use the wording "request the pleasure of your company." For ceremonies held in a house of worship, use "requests the honour of your presence."

- When hosted by the Bride and groom, "Bride's name and groom's name request the honour of your presence."

- If the ceremony is hosted by the bride's family, her parents names should listed first then the names of the couple. The parent's of the groom should be listed after the groom's name such as: "groom's name, son of Mr. and Mrs." The reverse for weddings hosted by the groom's family.

- When hosted by the bride and groom and their parents, "Bride's name and Groom's name, together with their parents" or if the parents are divorced and remarried, "...together with their parents and their spouses"

- If it is an informal event, state so. It is proper to state "informal attire" in wedding invitation wording in such cases.

- If you do not wish your guests to bring gifts, you may add "Your presence is the only gift we request."

Placing candles in just the right places in the church will cast a warm romantic glow over the entire ceremony. Speak to your pastor. More often than not he will endorse the whole idea. While candlelit ceremonies in churches can be beautiful they add an extra touch to home weddings as well.

Using candles for your wedding service provides an extra feeling of warmth for those winter weddings casting a warm glow that just seems to warm up the entire church and reception as well. There is just something about stepping in out of the snow into a candlelit room that makes everyone feel a warm glow in their hearts.

The Reception

Unless there are fire regulations forbidding their use, candles can be used as an inexpensive and romantic way to decorate the reception hall. They make wonderful centerpieces by themselves, in lanterns, and combined with floral arrangements. Placing three or four pillar candles on mirrors and scattering flowers around the table gives the reception tables an especially romantic and festive air.

Candle lanterns can add an old fashioned air to your traditional wedding reception as well. There are many small candle lanterns in brass, copper, and even cast iron to choose from to give your wedding tables a unique look. There are even some great candles with seashells right in the candle that can enhance a beach wedding theme.

Be sure to carry your candle theme beyond the reception tables themselves. If your wedding feast is buffet style a couple of candle hurricane lanterns placed on the food table will add a nice touch as well as one with your guest book. Although they look and smell great do avoid candles in bathrooms as gauzy sleeves may make such placement a fire hazard.

Wedding Favors

Candles make ideal wedding favors as well. You can choose from tea candles in unique holders, to small pillar and jar candles that the guests can take home with them sharing a little of this most romantic evening. You can give a simple favor by stacking two or three tea candles inside an organza bag and tying it with a pretty ribbon, or a more elegant favor that features a candle and holder in an already boxed set.

Your wedding is the most romantic day of your life, and candles can help express all that romance inexpensively and beautifully.

How to Make A Memorable Bride's Speech

The heartfelt moments that occur on your wedding day are the ones that people cherish the most. And a sincere thank you to those that have helped to make your wedding day special should not be overlooked, and here's why.

Getting engaged is amazing. It is quite simply a dream come true. You have met the man of your dreams, he has asked you to spend forever with him, and your friends and family are ready to celebrate your union with you. There is a lot to plan with your upcoming wedding, but one thing that you do not want to forget about is your bridal speech.

More and more brides are taking the opportunity to create a bridal speech. "Why?" you ask? Well, the truth is that much of the wedding is about the bride. Many people help you to create this wonderful day in your life, and giving a bridal speech gives you the opportunity to thank them for their efforts. You have your bridesmaids to thank, any special people involved in your wedding, your family to thank, and of course your new husband to thank for making all of this a possibility.

When constructing your bride's speech you will first of all want to think about when you would like it to occur. There are generally a couple of different places. If what you have to say is primarily for the women in your life and you are hosting a bridal luncheon this may be the perfect place. However, if you would like to talk about some gentlemen (like your own prince charming) you may want to choose an event like the rehearsal dinner. Generally this is a much more informal event to speak at, but it is also typically more intimate. However, if you want to give your speech in the grandest event possible you may want to opt to speak at your reception.

As you start to put the speech together it is important to keep the length in mind. The key to most speech writing is to keep it within a reasonable amount of time. Often brides find themselves carried away with the emotion of the event which can lead to rambling so it is best to map out what you are going to say prior to the big day. Clarify who you want to talk about and what you want to express about each person.

Next, you want to write down those sentiments. You do not necessarily need to put it together in speech format, but instead you simply want to brainstorm your sentiments. From there you want start to assembling the order of your statements. As you do this you may want to read your speech out loud. Often things may look good on paper, but will sound awkward when they are read aloud. Instead, by reading your speech aloud you can be sure that one sentiment flows into the next one.

In the end what you need to do is to trust yourself. Allow yourself to speak freely from your heart, and trust that what you are saying will be interesting to those attending your wedding. If you are honest and heartfelt there will not be a dry eye in the house.

Wedding Planning Budget and Your Wedding Planning Checklist

With a seemingly endless number of details on your mind, keeping yourself on track when doing your wedding planning can be difficult. But with the right tools and little good advice, you will be able to focus on the details of your wedding that are important to you.

Previously, I discussed some of the preliminary steps when planning a wedding reception and thought I would now provide more detail in regards to the wedding planning budget and determining a wedding planning checklist since most often the two are intertwined.

It is always best when determining your wedding planning budget to start with an initial number and decide what elements you want to include at your wedding reception. For example, I am working with a bride right now who had a preliminary budget in mind and found her wedding reception venue. From there she was able to create her wedding planning checklist to include the elements most important to her.

Thus, with an $18,000 wedding planning budget that included the ceremony, luncheon, open bar, cake and wedding reception venue, this bride had an additional $12,000 to spend for her wedding reception. Her wedding planning checklist for the basic remaining elements for her wedding day include the following:

Wedding Reception Flowers - Her idea is a twist on the usual table flowers. The bride wishes to use the money normally reserved for table flowers and have a simple inexpensive table arrangement and then donate the balance of the flower budget to charity.

Invitations, Escort Cards and Thank You Cards - This is an area in which you can save on your wedding planning budget by creating these elements yourself on the computer or use a local stationary store or on-line service.

DJ - A DJ is less expensive than hiring a band as well as musicians for the ceremony and cocktail hour.

Gown - Can always rent versus buying a gown and then not have to worry about cleaning or storage!

Make-up and Hair - So many choices since make-up and hair is so personal. Most often, the least expensive mode for hair and makeup is to go to the salon versus having someone come to the wedding reception venue that day.

Photographer - Always nice to have a professional, but if you are finding your budget running low and you know someone who can handle the job, then you can chance it. My recommendation is to interview different photographers at all different rate levels and select the one that best suits your purposes. Maybe if funds are low, the professional photographer can do the ceremony and family shots and then friends or family can take the wedding reception shots.

Officiate - Got to have one to make it legal. No way around this no matter what your budget is.

Of course there are additional items that can be added to your wedding planning budget such as party favors, specialty lighting, room décor, specialty rentals but the above listed items are the basics of a wedding planning checklist, and most often including the wedding reception venue comprise the majority of the wedding reception budget.
